The origin of the Hog Plum is from Central America. The fruit when ripe has a very thin tough skin with a very juicy pulp inside. The pulp is very acidic and has a sour taste. The pulp is used alongside sugar and sugarcane juice to put into jams, juices, and ice creams. This will allow the sweetness to counteract the tartness of the Hog Plum.

The purple passion fruit is native in southern Brazil through Paraguay to northern Argentina. The yellow fruit’s origin is uncertain, it may have originated in the Amazon region of Brazil. Passion fruit belongs to the Passifloraceae family. Passion fruits are egg-shaped or round-shaped, with a structure somewhat like a watermelon. There is an inedible outer rind, that can be yellow or purple, and the edible inside, which consists of a juicy, jam-like mixture of pulp and seeds. In Western Samoa, it is grown from near sea-level up to an elevation of 600 m. The round, egg-shaped fruits usually ripen from flowering in 80 days. There are 350 varieties of passion fruit but there are mainly two types - Golden Passion Fruit can grow up to the size of an orange. It has a bright, yellow, outer rind. The more well-known, the Purple Passion Fruit, is now mainly grown in Australia. Though it’s much smaller, it has, arguably, a richer flavor and aroma.
